Patient Experience

HCAHPS is a report card produced by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services based on inpatient feedback collected from patient surveys.  The questions on the survey are designed to measure patient perception of care.

Specifically, patients are asked to rate:

  • The overall hospital experience, with 0 being the worse and 10 being the best.
  • If they would recommend the hospital to family and friends.
  • How often and well nurses communicated.
  • How often and well doctors communicated.
  • The quiet and cleanliness of the hospital environment.
  • How well pain was controlled.
  • How often information was given about medications.
  • The quality of the information they were given to aid in their recovery once they got home.

 We always strive to be in the top 10 percent among all hospitals for all patient perception of care measures. Cone Health uses this patient feedback to improve the patient experience.

As you can see from the data, Cone Health meets or exceeds national averages in many areas of care. We focus on improvements where we fall below the national or state averages. The data represents the percentage of highest rating given by our patients in the different areas of care.
