US News Best Regional HospitalsRanked in Top 2% of U.S. News & World Report Common Care

Less than 2 percent of hospitals rated by U.S. News & World Report are ranked “High Performing” in the nine procedures and conditions that are commonly treated in a hospital. Cone Health is one of them. The ratings evaluate more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide with 63 hospitals coming in as top performing in all procedure and condition ratings. Cone Health is listed under “Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.”

U.S. News evaluated hospitals in nine of the common procedures and medical conditions - abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, colon cancer surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hip replacement, knee replacement and lung cancer surgery.

In addition to the procedure and condition ratings, Cone Health was also recognized as one of the Best Hospitals in North Carolina for 2016-17 by U.S. News. The annual rankings recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging conditions.

CMS 5 Star Rating

Ranked Top 3% in the Nation for Quality

The October 2016 government ratings on health care puts most of Cone Health in the top 3 percent of hospitals when it comes to quality. The ratings come from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The stars are used to give consumers easy to understand guidance about the quality of hospital care. Annie Penn Hospital, The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Wesley Long Hospital and Women’s have been awarded five-star ratings. Alamance Regional Medical Center earned three stars.

CareChexRanked in Top 1% Nationally for Overall Hospital Care

Few places offer better health care than Cone Health, which ranked seventh out of 3,139 hospitals in overall hospital care in the medical excellence category. That puts care at Cone Health in the top one percent of hospitals in the country in that category. The 2017 ratings comes from CareChex® — an information service of Quantros, Inc.

CareChex also ranks Cone Health third in the nation in spinal fusion, fourth in spinal surgery, fourth in pneumonia care and 14th in orthopedic care—all in the medical excellence category for 2017.

CareChex also ranks Cone Health among the top 100 hospitals in the nation for medical excellence in Overall medical care, cancer care, cardiac care, gastrointestinal care, general surgery, interventional coronary care, major bowel procedures, neurological care, pulmonary care, stroke care and vascular surgery.

Triad HealthCare Network Ranked #5 in the Nation for ACO Quality Measures

Triad HealthCare Network has been named to Becker's Hospital Review’s list of 100 ACOs to Know. The list features standout accountable care organizations from around the country.

The organizations named to this list stand out for their excellence in quality, achievements in driving down cost and ability to grow and take on risk. Triad HealthCare Network ranked fifth in the latest quality rankings of accountable care organizations in the Medicare Shared Savings Program.

Cone Health No. 1 in Low Heart-Attack Readmission Rates

Hospital Compare provides the most current data on readmission rates for heart attack patients across the country. Moses Cone Hospital has the nation’s lowest at 13.3 percent. The national average is 17 percent. Heart care at Moses Cone Hospital is provided at The Cone Health Heart and Vascular Center.

Society of Thoracic Surgeons

Top 1% Nationally for Quality and Outcome in Cardiovascular Surgery

Triad Cardiac & Thoracic Surgeons and Cone Health Heart & Vascular Center have earned three stars – the highest rating – in all three categories tracked by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS). Only a dozen heart programs in the nation matched this achievement.

LeapfrogCone Health Hospitals Score High Marks for Patient Safety

Annie Penn Hospital, The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital and Wesley Long Hospital earned A’s; and Alamance Regional Medical Center earned a B in the fall 2016 Leapfrog rankings.

Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are letter grades assigned to hospitals nationwide. The marks put Cone Health hospitals among the top hospitals when it comes to preventing and reducing what are known as adverse events.

HealthGrades PulmonaryCone Health Among the Top 5 Percent of Hospitals in the Nation for Pulmonary Care

Cone Health, including Alamance Regional Medical Center, Annie Penn Hospital, The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Wesley Long Hospital and Women’s Hospital, has been recognized by Healthgrades as one of “America’s 100 Best Hospitals™ for Pulmonary Care” for a second consecutive year (2016-2017). This puts the hospitals in the top 5 percent when it comes to pulmonary care. Healthgrades identified the 100 best-performing hospitals across all conditions or procedures evaluated within pulmonary care.

Healthgrades evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 34 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions. Cone Health also:

  • Received the Healthgrades Stroke Care Excellence Award.
  • Was named among the top 10 percent in the nation for Gastroenterology Medical Treatment for a third consecutive year (2015-2017).
  • Was recognized as a Five-Star Recipient in the Treatment of Heart Failure, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Pneumonia, Sepsis and Respiratory Failure.

Annie Penn Hospital, Moses Cone Hospital and Wesley Long Hospital are also the only hospitals in the Piedmont Triad2 to receive Five-Star Ratings in both the Total Knee Replacement and Total Hip Replacement categories.

The nursing care you will receive at Cone Health has been nationally recognized as some of the best in the country.

In 2014, five Cone Health hospitals were redesignated with Magnet Recognition for Excellence for the third straight time by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

A Magnet designation is the highest honor a hospital can receive for its nursing services. The designation is based on meeting standards set by the American Nurses Association.

The Magnet designation applies to Moses Cone Hospital, Wesley Long Hospital, Annie Penn Hospital, Women's Hospital and Behavioral Health Hospital. Alamance Regional Medical Center has not been designated with Magnet Recognition.

Cone Health has met The Joint Commission‘s national standards for healthcare quality and safety and has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™.

Joint Commission surveyors provide a comprehensive review of many areas from steps being taken to reduce the spread of hospital-based infections to making sure back-up power generators are routinely tested and in working order.
