Welcome to Cone Health Foundation's website.  Within this site, you will learn of the Foundation's grantmaking programs and gain insight about our board and staff leadership, our community partnerships, and how to apply for funding.

Our mission is to invest in the development and support of activities, programs and organizations that measurably improve the health of the people in the greater Greensboro area. In this endeavor, we view health in the broadest sense.  To us, it is the optimal state of wellbeing, the balance of physical, social, and emotional states for all people throughout our community.

Achieving an optimal state is a struggle for many in Guilford County, as we continue our long climb out of tough economic times.  Faced with decimated state and local budgets that cut deeply into key programs, health focused nonprofits and service providers continue to struggle to provide needed help.

Yet, through it all, the nonprofit sector remains remarkably resilient.  How do they do it?  In our view, Guilford County's nonprofit health organizations have not only survived, but in many ways have thrived due to strong individual and organizational leadership.  By staying mission-focused, innovative, connected and committed to underserved individuals, they are simply doing more with less.  We are proud to partner with them.

Our strategic focus is to solve some of our community's most intractable health problems. They concern access to health care, stemming the spread of HIV/AIDS, reducing the number of adolescents who give birth, persistent substance abuse and growing mental health concerns. None of these issues will be solved easily, none will be solved tomorrow, and none will be solved by Cone Health Foundation alone.

As we continue our pursuit of grantmaking excellence in health, it is more important than ever that we, in partnership with health nonprofits, monitor, evaluate and improve the health status of our community.  We, the Board of Directors and Staff of Cone Health Foundation, are one team working together to reflect our commitment to our mission.  Join us.

Kindly,

Griselda Clark, Chair, Board of Directors
Susan Shumaker, President
