Women's Hospital

Women’s Hospital opened on Nov. 5, 1990, and by 9:40 a.m. the squeal of a baby boy signaled a new era. A special place for women and babies, our 134-bed hospital provides women in our community with leading-edge, compassionate and exceptional care for every stage of life.

Our homelike rooms, extra special room service for new moms and their birthing partners, and our family-centered model of care make us a leading choice with expectant moms. And, whether you seek specialized care for a high-risk pregnancy, the latest diagnostic services, or alternative birth options such as a water birth, you can count on us for world-class service that’s close to home.

Visiting Hours and Information

Visiting Hours Women'sGuests are welcomed to visit with moms and new arrivals between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. We honor a 2 to 4 p.m. “quiet time” that allows the new family time alone to bond, nap and enjoy each other.

The number of visitors in a room at one time is limited based on the patient’s location. Our security staff at the Visitor’s Desk on the first floor will provide hospital-issued photo ID badges that must be worn at all times in the hospital. Visitors 15 and younger must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult who is not a patient.

Visitors should keep visits brief so patients can rest comfortably and recuperate. Guests with flu/cold symptoms (runny nose, fever, cough, sort throat, diarrhea, vomiting) may not visit. All visitors should use alcohol hand gel before and after visiting. Latex balloons are not allowed. Get more information about visiting any of our Cone Health hospitals here.

Dining Options

At Women’s Hospital, we strive to provide a delicious and nutritious in-room and cafeteria dining experience for patients and visitors.

Our “At Your Request Room Service” option is just another way we pamper our patients and their birthing partners. Not only do we provide a variety of selections, but we offer the same room service hospitality to family members, too. Simply ask your nurse how to purchase a guest tray.

Our in-house cafeteria, The Green Valley Café, is located on the ground floor of the hospital. Here, we feature traditional dining hours for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as twilight dining on weekdays.

Enjoy hot entrees prepared by our on-site chef for lunch and dinner. Or, visit our short-order grill for breakfast omelets on weekdays and sandwiches during all dining hours. Our salad bar ingredients, prepared deli sandwiches and “Grab N Go” meals are fresh, and selections are rotated daily. Best of all, everything is available for takeout.

For a quick snack, visit one of our vending machines or the Sweet Pea Gift Shop.

Great Beginnings Wall

Great BeginningsGreat Beginnings is a special way to honor the birth of a baby. With a $100 contribution to Women’s Hospital, your baby’s name and birthday, or the name and birthday of an older child, will be displayed on a plaque for one year. After a year on display, you will receive your child’s plaque as a permanent keepsake.

The Great Beginnings Wall is located on the first floor near the Central Nursery. Gifts of support to the Great Beginnings fund promote excellence in women’s and children’s services by helping to provide state-of-the-art equipment, programming and education. Every donation is appreciated and helps us serve the women in our community. A colorful plaque with your choice of an animal design (giraffe, hippo, lion or elephant) can be selected when submitting an application.

Our Awards and History

Upon opening our doors in 1990 as North Carolina’s first free-standing hospital dedicated to women, Women’s Hospital introduced our area’s first Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Today, our hospital’s board-certified neonatologists continue to offer around-the-clock support for our extra early arrivals.

In 1995, Women’s Hospital was the first hospital in the Triad to offer stereotactic breast biopsy. In 1998, Cone Health consolidated all maternity services for The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital and Wesley Long Hospital to Women’s Hospital. And, by 2006, we were the first in the state to offer new mothers the opportunity to donate their newborns’ stem-cell rich umbilical cord blood.

Baby FriendlyOn a national level, Women’s Hospital has been selected as a Best Fed Beginnings location, which is a pioneering national effort to significantly improve breastfeeding rates. We offer a range of breastfeeding consultations and support, and we have earned our “Baby-Friendly” designation.
