Annie Penn Hospital Celebrates 80th

For 80 years, Annie Penn Hospital has brought compassionate, advanced care to the people of Reidsville and the surrounding area. Moses Cone Health System invites the community to celebrate the hospital’s 80th birthday on May 11th from 5 to 7 pm. The public is invited to the free event on the hospital grounds on the corner of Main and Harrison streets.

R. Jane Penn—the great-great-granddaughter of the hospital’s namesake—will join prominent patients in recounting Annie Penn Hospital’s proud history. Those patients include the first baby born at the hospital as well as one of the famous Fultz quadruplets. Former board members will also be there along with current members of the hospital advisory board, medical staff and Moses Cone Health System as they look at Annie Penn Hospital’s legacy and its promising future.

“Annie Spencer Penn used to care for neighbors from the back porch of her own home. That spirit—we call it Annie’s Spirit—remains a big part of everything we do,” Grace Moffitt, Interim President, Annie Penn Hospital, says.

Penn’s family honored her kindness by donating land and money to build Annie Penn Hospital. It opened its doors on Mother’s Day in 1930.

Annie Penn Hospital has grown into a focal point for healthcare in the area with 52,043 outpatient visits and 6,249 hospital stays last year alone. Annie Penn Hospital offers a broad range of medical and surgical services. Specialty care is provided through the hospital’s Surgery Center, the radiology department, a Cancer Center, Sleep Center, rehabilitation and cardiology programs. Counting Penn Nursing Center and Moses Cone Health System physicians, 575 exceptional people provide exceptional care on the Annie Penn Hospital campus.
