Moses Cone Health System names chief quality officer

Moses Cone Health System has a new leader in its efforts to be among the top 10 percent of hospitals in quality, service and cost.

Dr. Mary Jo CagleDr. Mary Jo Cagle has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Quality Officer for Moses Cone Health System. Cagle begins her new role Jan. 3, 2011.

“The opportunity to develop the relationships and processes to ensure that each patient receives the best care every time is my driving passion,” Cagle says. “Moses Cone Health System obviously has all of the resources necessary to be among the best in quality and safety in this nation.” 

Cagle serves as the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs for the Bon Secours St. Francis Health System in Greenville, SC. Cagle has amassed a strong record of quality improvements under her leadership. Her hospital received the Leapfrog 2009 Top Hospital designation. It ranked in the top 10 percent for physician satisfaction over the past three years. St. Francis also won the South Carolina Governor’s Award for Quality in 2008.

The SC Hospital Association awarded the 2010 Lewis Blackman Patient Safety Champion Award to Cagle for “outstanding accomplishments in making South Carolina hospitals better and safer places.”

Cagle received her bachelor of science in biology from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. She received her medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, AL. Cagle completed her Residency and Internship in obstetrics and gynecology at the Greenville Hospital System in Greenville, SC. She remained in Greenville as a practicing physician, ultimately developing the busiest OB/GYN practice at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital.
