Annie Penn Hospital Joins Efforts to Better Care for Older Adults

Annie Penn Hospital has been designated a NICHE Hospital (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders). There are 300 hospitals with this designation internationally. The program provides principles, tools and resources to help hospitals better care for older patients.
The 78 million-member baby boom generation began turning 65 in 2011. The number of Americans 65 and older will grow to 72 million by 2030 and place great demands on the nation’s healthcare system.
“The aging of the U. S. population has profound implications,” says Debbie Green, Vice President of Nursing and Patient Services, Annie Penn Hospital. “NICHE designation means that we are prepared to meet the care needs of older adults, through our commitment to providing exemplary, evidence-based, patient- and family-focused care.”
NICHE is a program of the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing at New York University College of Nursing. It provides nurses with information to help the goal of improved clinical outcomes and greater patient, family and staff satisfaction.
