Annie Penn Hospital Honors Volunteers

In recognition of National Volunteer Week, Annie Penn Hospital honored its 92 adult volunteers and interns, who provided more than 17,500 hours of service to patients and visitors during the past year.

During a recognition and awards luncheon at The Belmont House on April 24, Thomas Neal, a patient services volunteer, was named the 2012 “Annie’s Spirit Winner.” He was serenaded by Hailey Best, Miss North Carolina 2011. Neal transports patients, visitors and staff from their vehicles to the various hospital entrances two mornings each week. Neal wrote in his volunteer application that his motive for volunteering was “to be a blessing to others” each day.

On April 27, the Annie Penn volunteers were treated to a group outing. They had lunch at the Weathervane restaurant in Chapel Hill, shopped and then ended the day with homemade ice cream at the Maple View Dairy Country Store in Hillsborough.

“We cannot do enough to honor our volunteers for the gift of their time and talents so faithfully provided,” says Sharon Troxler, Director, Volunteer Services, Annie Penn Hospital. “Our employees are always appreciative of the important support role filled by the volunteers. We hope that the week’s activities have made our volunteers realize how very special they are to us here at Annie Penn Hospital.”
