2013 Women’s Only T-Shirts
A river of hot pink, berry and electric green will roll through the streets between Women’s Hospital and the Cone Health Cancer Center as more than 3,500 women take part in the Women’s Only 5K Walk & Run. The Saturday, Oct. 5 event helps fund mammograms for women who might not otherwise be able to afford them.
“Mammography is simply the best tool that we have for finding breast cancer at its earliest stage,” says Women’s Hospital President Cindy Farrand. “The Women’s Only makes it possible for more women to get this lifesaving test. The vibrant colors of our commemorative T-shirts capture the energy of the participants helping women in our community.”
The commemorative 21st anniversary T-shirts come in three new colors -- hot pink for the runners, berry for survivors and electric green for volunteers. The shirts will be given to the first 3,000 women who register. Women can register for the event by going to womensonlyrun.com.
Proceeds from participant registrations fund The Mammography Scholarship Fund at Women’s Hospital. Free or reduced charge mammograms were provided to 730 women in Guilford and Rockingham counties last year thanks to the Fund. Breast cancer is the most frequently treated cancer at Cone Health Cancer Center.
The Women’s Only 5K Walk & Run begins at 8:00 a.m. with the Girls’ Only race for participants 6 years old and younger. Registration is $30 before Sept. 16 and $40 afterward. Girls’ Only Mini-Walk & Run registration is $10.
