Cone Health Hospitals Awarded for Healthy Eating and Smoking Cessation Efforts

The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Wesley Long Hospital, Women’s Hospital, Annie Penn Hospital and Cone Health Behavioral Health Hospital were recognized by NC Prevention Partners for their healthy eating and stop smoking programs. The hospitals were awarded Gold Apple and Gold Star designations by NC Prevention Partners on June 19. Funded by the Duke Endowment, NC Prevention Partners works to improve the health of North Carolina hospital employees by creating worksite wellness environments where the healthy choice is the easy choice.

“These awards speak to our value of ‘Caring for Each Other,’” says Cone Health Employee Wellness Coordinator Becca Jones. “We want healthy employees and we support our employees in their efforts to make healthy choices.”

The Gold Apple is awarded to hospitals that provide delicious, affordable and healthy foods to all employees all the time. The Gold Star is presented in recognition of providing the highest standard of excellence for tobacco cessation programs offered to employees.

“Cone Health continues to set a high bar of excellence in terms of their employee wellness program. They provide their employees every opportunity to eat healthy and quit tobacco, if needed,” commented NC Prevention Partners Director Anne Thornhill. “I applaud their great effort.”
