26 of the Great 100 Nurses Work at Cone Health

For the fourth consecutive year, more Great 100 nurses come from Cone Health than any other organization. An amazing 26 Cone Health nurses made the Great 100 list. The Great 100 Inc. is a grassroots organization honoring the nursing profession in North Carolina by recognizing nursing excellence and providing scholarships for nursing education.

“This is an incredible achievement for these nurses and indicative of the level of care we provide across Cone Health,” says Cone Health Executive Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Theresa Brodrick, Ph.D. RN. “They are true representatives of our commitment to providing the best possible care for our patients.”

The nurses were selected in a blind application process from over 650 applications. The nurses, their hometowns and where they work are:

Archdale- Dawn Whitmire, who works at multiple locations as a staff educator; Vanessa Tobey, who works in medical oncology at the Cone Health Cancer Center.

Asheboro- Diane Bell, who works in medical oncology at the Cone Health Cancer Center; Gabe Santanella, who works in flexible resources at Moses Cone Hospital. 

Cedar Grove- Heidi Brown, who works in the Alamance Regional Medical Center Special Care Neonatal Nursery.

Danville, Va.-Debra Anderson, who is an oncology nurse at Wesley Long Hospital.

Elon- Annie Hodges, who is a urology nurse at Wesley Long Hospital.

Greensboro- Barbara Akins, who is a nurse at Cone Health Behavioral Health Hospital; Donna Coley, who works in the maternity admissions unit of Women’s Hospital; Wendy Hicks, who works at multiple locations in clinical informatics; Margaret Lessard, who works in flexible resources at Moses Cone Hospital; Shannon Love, who works in the intermediate care unit of Moses Cone Hospital; Jill Moore, who works in a surgical nursing at Moses Cone Hospital; Anita Sowder, who works in the birthing suites of Women’s Hospital; Clarissa Staten, who works in a surgical nursing unit at Wesley Long Hospital; Paul Summerell, who works in the neurological intensive care unit at Moses Cone Hospital.

Jamestown- Pam Hicks, who works in the surgical short-stay center at Moses Cone Hospital.

Pleasant Garden- Danyel Johnson, who works as a clinical nurse specialist for Cone Health; Laura Yontz, who works in the post-anesthesia care unit of Moses Cone Hospital.

Reidsville- Julie Eastwood, who works in the MedCenter High Point Emergency Department; Rachel Fountain, who works in an intensive care unit at Moses Cone Hospital; Marlene Yates, who works in medical staff quality at Moses Cone Hospital 

Snow Camp- Anne Shaver, who works as a breast cancer nurse navigator and breast health educator at Cone Health Cancer Center at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Summerfield- Cameron Carlton works for Cone Health in staff education; Gina Dixon, works as a patient navigator at Cone Health Cancer Center; Pamela Garman, works as an urology nurse at Wesley Long Hospital.

Great 100 nurses will be recognized at a gala Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro.
