Cone Health Earns Coveted Heart Surgery Rating Four Years Running

Cone Health Heart and Vascular Center has received the Society of Thoracic Surgeons’ 3-Star rating for coronary bypass surgery for the fourth consecutive year. The rating is the Society’s highest and puts Cone Health Heart and Vascular Center among the top 14 percent in the nation for this type of heart surgery.

“Cone Health Heart and Vascular Center has been committed to being a national leader in heart and vascular care,” says Heart and Vascular Services and Imaging Services Vice President Rich Lundy. “Earning this demanding recognition for four years is a terrific example of the dedication our staff has to achieving and maintaining the highest standards in patient care.”

Coronary bypass surgery is used to treat people who have blocked arteries in their hearts. Through coronary bypass surgery, a blood vessel is removed from one area of the body and used to bypass the blocked section of the heart artery. The Society of Thoracic Surgeons is a leader in establishing and reporting quality guidelines that give consumers the tools they need to make informed decisions about their care. Cardiothoracic surgeons voluntarily report their outcomes to improve the care and safety of patients.

Cone Health Heart and Vascular Center is also ranked among the top 10 percent of programs in the nation for medical excellence in major cardiac surgery and coronary bypass surgery by CareChex®—a division of Comparion.
