Calendar Allows Families of Cancer Patients to “Leave Those Feelings at the Door.”

Lisa Parrott and her sisters knew they needed to be strong, stronger than they had ever been in their lives. “Our daddy is our hero; to us there's no other like him,” says Parrott. “When we found out he had an aggressive form of cancer, it broke our hearts.  All we knew is we had to be strong for the man who had been strong for us our entire lives.”

But families of cancer patients can tell you that staying strong isn’t easy—even for a hero dad. So Parrott and her three sisters signed up for a class called, “Create Your Masterpiece.” It is an art class by Cone Health Cancer Center in partnership with the Painters Roost. The class is for cancer survivors and their families.

“The mental, emotional and physical roller coaster we have been on has been challenging to say the least,” says Parrott. “These classes give us an opportunity to leave those feelings at the door, to be with people who know and understand what we are going through and to share those moments together.

These opportunities to “leave those feelings at the door” are partially supported through the sale of a special calendar. Seasons of Survivorship 2016 also educates people about cancer and its treatment through the story of local cancer survivors featured each month.

Seasons of Survivorship 2016 calendars are $12.50 each or two for $20. The calendars are available at Cone Health Cancer Center at Alamance Regional Medical Center, Cone Health Cancer Center at MedCenter Mebane, Filament Coffee in Mebane, Urban Chic Salon in Burlington and Charm Salon in Graham. They make great last-minute stocking stuffers.
