Cone Health Executive to Influence National Behavioral Health Policy

The American Hospital Association (AHA) has elected Debbie Green Cunningham, DNP, RN, a delegate and member of its Regional Policy Board for Psychiatric and Substance Abuse Services. Cunningham serves as president,

Annie Penn Hospital and president, Cone Health Behavioral Health Services.  In her role as a delegate, she will help shape and influence national public policy in behavioral health in our region and across the country. AHA is one of the nation’s largest hospital advocacy groups.

Recently, Cunningham graduated from the prestigious Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Executive Nurse Fellows Program. While there, she developed curriculum for nursing schools in the area of behavioral health education.

Cunningham has long been interested in behavioral health, particularly in rural areas; making it easier for people to obtain behavioral health care; and working with those needing psychiatric services.

Cunningham holds a doctorate degree in nursing practice from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa; a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville; and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from West Virginia University, Morganton. She also has a post-master’s certificate as an adult/gerontological nurse practitioner from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
