Page High School Students Make Holidays More 'Bearable' for Kids!

No one wants to be in an emergency department on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. For students in the Page High School Nursing Fundamentals Class the thought of children spending the day in the Moses Cone Hospital Children’s Emergency Department was simply unbearable.

So the students collected and wrapped toy bears and dropped them by for the kids. “We thought that this is a wonderful opportunity to give these Christmas gifts,” says senior Avigayil Burgess.

More than 38,000 children visited the Children’s Emergency Department last year with everything from respiratory problems to ear infections to rashes. As health care students—and teens themselves— this project struck a chord. “We all know what it’s like to be sick and come in here,” says aspiring pediatrician Azian Alston. “We wanted to make sure kids have something to take home with them, especially on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.”
