Cone Health CEO Is Recognized for Leadership in Health Care

Terry Akin receives the Senior-Level Healthcare Executive Regent’s Award from ACHE.

Cone Health CEO Terry Akin, FACHE, has received the American College of Healthcare Executives Senior-Level Healthcare Executive Regent’s Award. The award recognizes American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) members who are experienced in the field and have made significant contributions to the advancement of health care management excellence.

The award was presented to Akin by Joann Anderson, FACHE, the North Carolina Regent and president and CEO of Southeastern Health in Lumberton, North Carolina. The award was presented at the winter meeting of the North Carolina Hospital Association.

Members are evaluated on leadership ability; innovative and creative management; executive capability in developing their own organization, and promoting its growth and stature in the community; contributions to the development of others in the health care profession; leadership in local, state or provincial hospital and health association activities; participation in civic/community activities and projects; participation in ACHE activities; and interest in assisting ACHE in achieving its objectives.

Akin has served as CEO of Cone Health since October 2014. He joined the health care network in July 2009 as chief operating officer and was named president in April 2012.

Akin is board certified in health care management as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), demonstrating a commitment to professional excellence. He is a member of the North Carolina Hospital Association Board of Directors. Akin serves as chairman of both the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce and the Guilford County Economic Develop Alliance. He was named to the Triad Business Journal's “Most Admired CEO” list last year.
