Cone Health Hospitals Again Score High Marks for Patient Safety

Cone Health earns top grades in the Spring 2017 Leapfrog Hospital Safety ratings.

Annie Penn Hospital, The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital and Wesley Long Hospital earned A’s; and Alamance Regional Medical Center earned a B in the Spring 2017 Leapfrog rankings. Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are letter

grades assigned to hospitals nationwide. The marks put Cone Health hospitals among the top hospitals when it comes to preventing and reducing infections, errors and complications.

“Unnecessary infections, complications and errors unfortunately happen all too often in our nation’s hospitals,” says Cone Health Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Bruce Swords, MD. “Avoiding them is really a hallmark of truly exceptional care. Our team of caregivers takes the extra time and applies the latest science to bring that level of care to each and every one of our patients.”

The Leapfrog Group does not rank specialty hospitals, so Behavioral Health Hospital and Women’s Hospital were not graded.

“Hospitals that earn top marks nationally in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, have achieved the highest safety standards in the country,” says The Leapfrog Group President and CEO Leah Binder. “That takes commitment from every member of the hospital staff, who all deserve thanks and congratulations when their hospitals achieve an ‘A’ Safety Grade.”

Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice a year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
