Advanced Mammography Services
Take advantage of Cone Health’s high-quality mammography services. Regular screening mammograms can help you detect breast cancer before symptoms develop. Diagnostic mammograms investigate areas of concern after a screening mammogram reveals abnormalities or you experience symptoms such as a lump or nipple discharge.
Do I Need a Mammogram?
Visit our health library to review benefits and risks, read expert advice and assess your own feelings about getting a breast cancer screening mammogram.
Improve the likelihood of accurate, high-quality results with just one test when you choose Cone Health for your screening mammogram. With our high-resolution digital mammography, your doctor can easily electronically enhance the image or magnify areas of concern to identify abnormalities in your breast tissue.
Breast Tomosynthesis (3-D Mammograms)
Effectively identify breast cancer with breast tomosynthesis, or 3-D mammography. During this exam, an X-ray machine takes multiple pictures of your breast. A computer then assembles these images to create a detailed 3-D image that your doctor can examine layer by layer. Your doctor may recommend tomosynthesis if you have dense breasts or are at high risk for breast cancer or if your screening mammogram reveals an area of concern.
Clinical & Technical Mammography Expertise
Feel confident that you’ll get the most accurate mammogram results possible at Cone Health. Our caring, specially trained technologists help you position yourself for the best-quality images. Rest assured that your results are read by a board-certified, fellowship-trained radiologist, and then double-checked by our computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) software.
Your doctor may recommend a breast ultrasound if you have dense breast tissue or if your screening mammogram reveals an area of concern. This painless, noninvasive test uses sound waves to create a picture of your breast tissue. Learn more about breast ultrasound.
If your doctor needs to remove a small piece of your breast tissue for further testing, ask about our minimally invasive, image-guided procedures, including:
- Stereotactic breast biopsy – Uses a hollow needle and guidance from a special mammography machine to remove cells from a suspicious area in your breast
- Ultrasound guided core needle biopsy – Employs a hollow needle and guidance from an ultrasound machine to remove cells from a suspicious area in your breast
- Mammography-guided needle localization – Uses a needle and guidance from a special mammography machine to place a thin wire at the spot in your breast that needs to be removed during a surgical biopsy
