Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R)
At Cone Health, we believe in an integrated approach to rehabilitation, including physician services, onsite diagnostics and specially trained therapists.
Weakness, loss of flexibility, poor technique, overuse, injury and strain from obesity are just a few issues that can lead to musculoskeletal problems. Other issues can result from life-changing medical events like strokes, brain and head injuries or spinal cord injuries.
Our holistic approach means that we are committed to treating you as a person—not just as a condition. Our PM&R physicians routinely collaborate with other physician specialists in the fields of orthopedics, neurology and neurosurgery to create a continuum of care from inpatient hospitalization to the outpatient setting.
We use musculoskeletal and neurologic exams, diagnostic ultrasounds, specialized nerve and muscle tests, X-rays, imaging studies and other techniques to help us diagnose your specific problem. Based on our findings, we create a customized treatment plan using a variety of non-surgical options such as exercise, bracing, ice, heat, ultrasound, manual therapy, injections, acupuncture and medications.
Our physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants are the people who care for and direct the medical care of patients in Cone Health’s Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accredited inpatient rehabilitation unit. We will continue to follow you after your discharge from the hospital through your entire recovery process at our outpatient clinic.
Whether your goal is to retrain muscles, pick up your child or run a 5K race, we’ll work with you to help you set and reach realistic goals.
