Mammography Scholarship Fund
For two decades, Women’s Hospital has hosted the Women’s Only 5K Walk & Run. Traditionally held the first Saturday of October, the race is the primary fundraiser for the Mammography Scholarship Fund that provides mammograms for women who otherwise could not afford the screening service.
In 2012, the event raised $124,809.63 for the Fund from donations and race registrations.
The Mammography Scholarship Fund will cover one mammogram screening per year to women age 40 and older who meet the criteria. A new application must be completed each year. Funding varies from year to year.
Digital mammography screenings are available at Women’s Hospital and Annie Penn Hospital. All appointments are coordinated by Imaging Services at Women’s Hospital (832-6515).
Women with significant symptoms like a breast lump or nipple discharge are not eligible for the mammography Scholarship Fund. However, additional funding may be available through the North Carolina Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program by calling 832-0894.
