Alvin Powell, MD, serves as the chief medical officer at Annie Penn Hospital in Reidsville. Powell is also chief health equity officer for Cone Health.
Powell came to Greensboro in 1990 as a nephrologist with Carolina Kidney Associates. He has been medical director of the Cone Hospital Hemodialysis Unit and of the Rockingham Kidney Center.
Powell earned his undergraduate degree at Columbia University, his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed a nephrology fellowship at Emory University. Powell is board certified in internal medicine and nephrology. He is a member of the class of 2018 of the Disparities Leadership Program associated with the Disparities Solution Center at Mass General Hospital.
Powell is past president of the medical and dental staff of Cone Health, past chair of the medical staff peer review committee, and current member of the credentials committee and the Physician Council for Equity.
Powell has worked with medical missions in Haiti and Honduras. He is a Big Brother with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Central Piedmont.
