Dereck DeLeon, MD
Chief Academic Officer
Dereck DeLeon, MD, is Cone Health’s first chief academic officer. He is responsible for bringing together clinical care, academics and research for the improvement of patient care. DeLeon also guides the training of the next generation of health professionals through his leadership of the Greensboro Area Health Education Center.
DeLeon came to Cone Health in 2018 from Kaiser Permanente San Diego, where he worked as program director of family medicine and chair of family medicine. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in molecular biology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Washington. Deleon received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Universidad del Caribe de Cayey in Puerto Rico. He finished a faculty development fellowship and the National Institute for Program Director Development Fellowship at the UC San Diego School of Medicine.
DeLeon received the Barbara Harris Award for Educational Excellence from the California Academy of Family Physician Foundation in 2018.
