Monique Smalls, APR
Vice President, Communications

Monique Smalls is the vice president of communications for Cone Health. Smalls leads the teams responsible for internal, external, executive, crisis management and corporate events communications strategies and plans. She also leads the development and implementation of communications strategies for strategic business partnerships and long-range strategic planning.
Prior to this role, Smalls served as director, marketing and communications for people and culture for Cone Health. Before joining Cone Health, she was the director, talent communications at Novant Health and director, executive communications at Labcorp. The award-winning former journalist also worked in corporate communications at Novartis, the global pharmaceutical company, and public relations at LHWH Advertising & PR.
Smalls graduated with distinction with her master’s degree in global strategic communication from the University of Florida and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with her bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Monique is Accredited in Public Relations (APR) and a member of the Institute for Public Relations (IPR) ELEVATE program.
