Olu Jegede, MD

Senior Vice President and Chief Health Equity and Community Impact Officer 

Olu Jegede, MD, is the senior vice president and chief health equity and community impact officer at Cone Health. In this role, Dr. Jegede leads the development and execution of a strategic plan focused on promoting health equity, eliminating health care disparities and building community wellness across Cone Health's service areas. 

Dr. Jegede began his career at Cone Health in 2014 as the medical director of Cone Health Community Health and Wellness Center. He also became the medical director for Cone Health Sickle Cell Program (Patient Care Center) in 2016. He later became the First Care division medical director for Cone Health Community Care Services and Area Medical Director for Cone Health Medical Group. Since 2022, Dr. Jegede has served as vice president of Clinical Care-Health Equity for Cone Health.

Dr. Jegede is a Certified Physician Executive. He is also a Certified Professional in Clinical Health Equity through the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.

Dr. Jegede obtained his master’s degree in health care administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Managing Health Care Delivery Certificate from Harvard Business School.

Dr. Jegede is a fellow of American College of Physicians, fellow of American Association for Physician Leadership and fellow of American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).

Dr. Jegede is a member of the North Carolina Council on Sickle Cell Syndrome, the Governor's Advisory Committee for a Stronger North Carolina and the Minority Health Advisory Council.

Dr. Jegede is one of Modern Healthcare’s Innovators for 2024. He is also a recipient of the 2024 Clinical Leadership Award from the North Carolina Healthcare Association.
