Spider & Varicose Veins
For expert treatment of spider and varicose veins, trust the board-certified team of dermatology experts at Alamance Skin Center. We are experienced in treating these vein conditions with multiple therapies, including laser treatments and sclerotherapy.
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy was developed over 75 years ago and at present is one of the most prevalent treatments for spider and varicose veins. During the treatment, a sclerosing agent is injected into the vein through a tiny needle. Upon injection, the solution replaces the blood in the vein, generating irritation and corrosion to the walls of the vessel. The body then initiates the natural healing process and the vein begins to decompose, shrink and eventually disappear.
How long does treatment last?
Treatment can last from 15 minutes to 45 minutes, depending on the number of veins treated in a particular session.
What results will I see?
Gradual improvement will be noticed. Many patients experience 60% to 80% of the treated vessels resolved. During the consultation, you will be advised as to the number of treatments necessary to achieve desired results.
Laser Treatment
Laser therapy is a proven treatment for treating broken and dilated vessels. Alamance Skin Center uses the Lumenis One laser apparatus that provides the most cutting-edge treatments for facial veins. It has YAG laser capabilities as well as Vascular IPL (intense pulse light) capabilities to best customize each patient’s treatment for facial veins.
How Does Laser Vein Treatment Work?
Lasers work by emitting a specialized light that is passed through the skin and preferentially absorbed by the hemoglobin (the red portion of blood) in the unwanted vessels. The laser causes the vein to break up and disappear.
What Can I Expect With The Procedure?
Most people describe the treatment feeling like a rubber band snap. You may be given a topical anesthetic cream to numb the area to be treated. Any discomfort can be eased with the application of cool compresses. After treatment, you can immediately return to normal activities.
How Soon Will I See Results?
Because laser vein treatment works by causing the unwanted vein to break up and dissolve, resolution of the unwanted vein will take place over the course of several weeks.
Will Insurance Cover This Procedure?
Laser vein treatments like other cosmetic procedures are not usually covered by your insurance company. If you have any questions, it is best to talk with your provider.
