Asthma

At the Allergy & Asthma Center of North Carolina, we use a detailed history from the patient as well as breathing tests and blood work, if needed, to make the diagnosis of asthma. We also assess potential triggers, such as allergens, exercise, reflux, and other environmental factors, to help manage this condition effectively.
We provide you with a treatment plan, including inhalers and injectable medications, depending on the severity of the symptoms, ensuring a personalized approach to care.
Inhalers
We have a number of inhalers to provide the best treatment options for patients. Depending on the symptoms, we will work with the patients to determine the best dosing option and plan for managing asthma symptoms effectively. We are up to date on the latest inhalers and often have samples that we can provide to patients. We work with Cone Health pharmacies and other pharmacies to find the best price on medications.
Biologics
There are several injectable medications (biologics) that can target asthma-triggering chemicals in our immune system. These work with controller inhalers to keep asthmatic patients living their most productive, fulfilling life. We have a dedicated staff members who assures that there is insurance approval in place and helps with copay card assistance.
Breathing Tests
We use breathing tests in the office (called spirometry) to measure lung capacity. This also allows us to figure out whether albuterol improves the lung volumes, which helps us to diagnose asthma. We also offer home spirometry devices to help patients monitor their lung capacity in various environments. This device connects to their smartphones and uploads to a secure server, which the physicians can access to look at their lung testing in real time.
