Hives (Urticaria)

Hives affect approximately 20% of people at some point in their lives. Hives are bumps on the skin that can be red, raised and itchy. They have a wide range of causes — they can be completely self-limited and benign, or they can be marker of a more severe autoimmune disease. Hives can also lead to decreased quality of life in the form of worsening sleep and anxiety over the condition.
At the Allergy & Asthma Center of North Carolina, we use a detailed history from the patient to determine whether testing is needed to identify what triggers a patient's hives. We can do allergy testing in the office and, if needed, blood work in the office.
