Tell us about your Wellness Superhero journey.

I am nominating myself for all of those moms out there who think that they don't have time to exercise and eat a healthy diet. My weight loss has been 40 pounds since I started working here in April. I have 3 small kids, so it gets tough at times, but finding ways to fit in workouts in the morning and at lunch are helpful. We have to get healthy for our kids, our spouses, for our future grandkids and just for ourselves. Make time for you, and your body will thank you later.

What inspired you to get healthy and stay healthy?

To see my sister lose weight and get healthy was a wonderful inspiration. I also have a Grandmother who stays active with Rockingham County Senior Care. She is a very active senior at 81, and I want to stay strong and active so I live a long healthy life for my kids, husband and family. Michelle, in Echo lab, was also a big inspiration to me. Hearing her wellness story and how she overcame barriers after having her child was inspiring.

Tell us which Cone Health Wellness program you participated in.

I have participated in several wellness programs. I love going to the YMCA in Reidsville for the group exercise classes. I make use of the on-site gyms at several hospital locations and also the LiveLifeWell website for education. My PCP has also guided me along the way each month with small goals to meet.

Are there activities or hobbies you now participate in that you didn’t before?

The exercise classes at the YMCA are something that I now participate in. I enjoy making friends at the YMCA and having motivation from the instructor as well as from others who come. The class participants will keep you accountable. I have more energy to keep up with the kids when I get home from work. That's a plus, especially when they want to go outside and race kiddie cars.

Have your doctor, family, friends and co-workers provided support along the way? If so, how?

I would like to thank my husband for encouraging me to keep going, my kids who enjoy doing work out videos with me at home, my PCP for helping me make small changes each month, LiveLifeWell and all of the Cone Health resources and classes with the YMCA. I would also like to thank my manager Jenny Eaves and coworker Michelle in Echo for encouraging me to keep going.

If you could say one thing to other employees to inspire them, what would you say?

As you travel on your journey, whether it's weight loss, eating healthy or other things, just remember to celebrate your success. Get excited that you did something for 1 month, 2 months, etc. Make small goals to reach your target goal. Motivate yourself with music and other people around you. Focus on your faith and your inner spirit. Learn to love and appreciate your body and mind. And remember that its OK to make mistakes - get back up and start again.
