Tell us about Tammy's Wellness Superhero journey.

Tammy is coordinating a weight loss challenge for Wesley long staff. She started with a goal of 20 employees, and the group has grown to 36 members. Tammy coordinated weigh-ins and created a Facebook group for updates, daily inspiration and motivation. The "challenge" officially runs June through August with the "winner" being the person with highest percentage weight loss at the end of August.

Tammy has been a champion of creating a positive, uplifting, accountable culture to encourage every employee, no matter where they are on their fitness journey to better their mind and body. This is a true reflection of caring for self and each other.

This group began June 1st and unofficially (we are still waiting on a few more weigh-ins) have already lost more than 104 POUNDS! Tammy enlisted the assistance of Joni Garrett, LiveLifeWell Health & Fitness Specialist, to provide 2 10 minute movement breaks on the Wesley Long campus that are open to all employees. With these breaks, Tammy is providing time to care for self and encourages all employees to attend - even if they are not in the weight loss group.

What inspired Tammy to get healthy and stay healthy?

Tammy knew she wanted to lose weight, and thought that she would enlist the help of her Wesley Long team members to help hold each other accountable - she wanted to create a group and network for positive encouragement!

Tell us which Cone Health Wellness program Tammy participated in.

We have enlisted the help of Joni Garrett for movement breaks and teaching simple, yet very effective workouts that employees can participate in every Tuesday in a group setting. Tammy created her own wellness weight loss group as a program for positive, uplifting encouragement for ALL employees and health goals.

Are there activities or hobbies Tammy now participates in that she didn’t before?

Daily exercise - taking the stairs instead of the elevator and walking more (even on days off from work).

Have Tammy's doctor, family, friends, and co-workers provided support along the way? If so, how?

The weight loss group is a positive, supporting network of inspiration and motivation.

If you could say one thing to other employees to inspire them, what would you say?

Here at Cone Health, we know there is no "I" in "team." This is even true with weight loss - there's no reason to go through a weight loss journey by yourself. Reaching out and developing a network of positive support with our Wesley Long team members has been extremely vital to the success of 36 employees who are working to better their health!
