On June 18th, 2003 I had a near-fatal car crash. I didn’t realize it at the time, but my accident would shape me into the nurse I am today. I suffered five pelvic fractures—among several other life-threatening injuries. I couldn’t walk for eight weeks after. It was a frightening moment in my life, but now I can treat patients with more compassion than I ever thought possible. Because of my experience, I’m able to be the nurse that not only empathizes, but sympathizes with patients. When facing serious injuries, the unknown is so scary, but because I’ve been there, I can provide hope.

I’ve been with Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital for 17 years now. I drive over an hour to get to work because there is no place like it. I work in the Pediatric ER and was part of the flagship group that started this facility. One of the most rewarding parts of the job has been to see how far this department has come. The teamwork here is flagship. The physicians value your input and you can tell the executive staff and managers truly appreciate their employees. I have been a nurse for 38 years and feel beyond blessed to hopefully spend the rest of my career with Cone Health.
