Why are we rolling out the team member referral bonus program?

Cone Health recognizes our team members are BRAND AMBASSADORS and an integral part of growing their teams!

As a BRAND AMBASSADOR, we need YOU to help us grow our team! The impact of expanding our program to be more diverse and inclusive is:

  • Increase in retention and performance
  • Increase in employee engagement
  • Reduction in time to fill vacant positions

  • Overall positive outcomes as our team members know qualified candidates who would be a great cultural fit for our organization

What has changed?

  • SELECTED positions within Cone Health will be eligible for a referral bonus, including part-time, relief, and per diem positions!
  • Temporary and contract positions are not eligible for a referral bonus
  • The bonus amount will depend on if a position is a spotlight or featured role.
  • Earned bonuses will be paid out after the referred employee has been employed by Cone Health for 6 months.

What is the bonus structure?

  • Featured roles (.75 FTE or higher = 30 hours per week or more) within the organization will be eligible for a $3,000 referral bonus.
    • The prorated referral bonus for part-time (<.75 FTE = less than 30 hours per week) and PRN featured roles is $1500.
    • These roles will include: Nurse Techs, Ultrasonographers, Med Techs/MLTs, CT Techs, Interventional Radiology Team, Cyto Techs, Pharmacy Techs, Phlebotomist
  • Spotlight roles (.75 FTE or higher = 30 hours per week or more) within the organization will be eligible for a $6,000 referral bonus.
    • The prorated referral bonus for part-time (<.75 FTE = less than 30 hours per week) and PRN spotlight roles is $3,000.
    • These roles will include: All RNs/LPNs, Respiratory Therapists, CMAs

How do I know if an opening is a featured or spotlight role?

An opening will be identified as either featured or spotlight. The category will be determined by the number of vacancies and challenges recruiting qualified candidates.

When will I get my bonus?

Earned referral bonuses will be paid out on the first paycheck following the referred employee’s completion of 6 months of employment at Cone Health. Standard taxes and withholdings may apply; a separate W-2 form may be received for any referral bonuses. Both the referred employee and the referring team member must be employed at the time of the bonus payout.

When did the old program end? How will those bonuses be affected?

The old program ended on July 31, 2022. Bonuses owed will be paid out on the first paycheck following the referred employee’s completion of 6 months of employment at Cone Health. Standard taxes and withholdings may apply. Both the referred employee and the referring team member must be employed at the time of the bonus payout.

Who is eligible to participate in the new program?

The referral bonus program is open to all team members in the organization except those defined below.

1) Employed at Assistant Director level or above.

2) Employed within the People & Culture department.

3) Employed with direct hiring influence on the position to which the referral is hired.

4) Employed in a temporary or contract role.

How do I refer a qualified candidate?

  • Email the qualified candidate a link to apply through the internal team member portal on the careers page.
  • Log in as an internal team member to send a general referral link or a link to a specific job. If you are sending a referral a link to a specific job, please make sure to confirm that the position is posted externally.
  • Your referral MUST apply through the link that you emailed.
  • Failure to follow these instructions will result in forfeiture of a referral bonus.

Why can I no longer complete a referral submission form?

To eliminate manual tracking, we are implementing the above submission process in lieu of the referral submission form.

Who will not count as a qualified referral?

  • Rehires that have worked for Cone Health within the past year
  • Persons currently working as temporary or contract employees at Cone Health
  • Persons hired into Premium Flex roles
  • Persons hired into the New Graduate RN Residency Program, LPN Extern Program or the Extern Program
  • The program is for internal employees referring external candidates (this excludes internal transfers)
