Our integrated multi-campus pharmacy division works as a strategic partner with providers to drive medication-related evidence-based clinical care decisions and business outcomes. We educate all members of the clinical team on appropriate and safe medication use. Pharmacists are active participants in the Cone Health Centers of Excellence in cardiology, oncology, neurosciences, behavioral health, and women’s health. Decentralized, service-based pharmacists integrate obtaining electronic medication admission histories and pharmaceutical care with managing drug therapy; teaching patients, pharmacy learners, and physicians; and conducting research in HIV, oncology, critical care, and cardiology. Projects for the upcoming year include optimizing pharmacy operations in our new state-of-the-art facility, enhancing robotics in the sterile products area, implementation of Lean principles intended to reduce waste and improve patient experiences, advancing collaborative pharmacist-physician practice throughout our system-wide specialty pharmacy division, and expanding a meds-to-bed transitions of care program. Cone Health pharmacy departments offer PGY2 residency training in ambulatory care, cardiology, infectious diseases, oncology, pediatrics, and a PGY1/PGY2 health-system pharmacy administration and leadership program that grants a M.S. degree from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy.
