Wellness SuperheroesTell us about your Wellness Superhero Journey.

To me, wellness means balancing the mind, body and soul. It makes me feel empowered, like a superhero, when I eat right, stretch, workout and pray. Wellness is extremely important in my life and I encourage our employees, our patients and our community to make healthy decisions when it comes to proper eating and continuous physical activity.

What inspired you to get healthy and stay healthy?

Growing up, I was an overweight child that was bullied. As a result, it pushed me to get fit so I started working out and eating healthier.

Staying healthy is a daily battle due to the obstacles of sitting at your desk, the temptation of sweets at the office, and the lack of energy remaining after a long day. As early risers, my wife and I start the day with spiritual prayer and 15 minutes of yoga to loosen up. During the day, I encourage my team members to take a walk with me outside and try to attend as many Cone exercise classes as work meetings permit. I also try to chop up celery and carrots to have with me throughout the day as snacks. My inspiration for staying fit is for the reason of feeling healthy, strong, and energized.

Which Cone Health Wellness programs have you participated in?

I participate in the fitness classes at Green Valley Road. Throughout the week, as work permits, the classes I attend are Total Toning and Pump and Sculpt. I have a stand up desk in my office and my daily steps average more than 10,000 a day. I also attended the Wellness Screening in February, and as a result, I have lost 4 pounds due to Gideon’s recommendation of the Myfitnesspal app!

Are there activities or hobbies you now participate in that you didn’t before?

At the beginning of this year, I started to attend the fitness classes with my wife.

Has your doctor, family, friends, and co-workers provided support along the way? If so, how?

My wife and I are a great support system to one another, and we hold each other accountable. We encourage exercise and healthy eating to each other and to our children.

If you could say one thing to other employees to inspire them, what would you say?

In order to be and feel empowered, get moving and start making healthy eating decisions. If you want to lose weight, a healthy diet is key. When you start to eliminate sugary foods from your diet, healthy foods will become more flavorful and you will feel energized and happier as a result. Join me in your pursuit for a healthier life!
