Biography
Bret Jacobs, DO, CAQSM, FAMSSM, FAAFP, is the Associate Program Director of the Cone Health Sports Medicine Fellowship and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Dr. Jacobs specializes in sports medicine. His professional interests include sports injuries, tendinopathy, running medicine and musculoskeletal ultrasound.
Dr. Jacobs takes care of athletes of all ages and ability levels with a focus on returning patients back to the activities they enjoy. He has extensive experience with professional, collegiate, high school and amateur athletes. As a sports medicine physician, he has a unique skill set to address any non-operative orthopedic and musculoskeletal needs. Using an open dialogue, he builds rapport, personalizes treatment plans, and focuses on helping patients lead a healthy and active life. He is an active member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and serves on the Fellowship and Education Committees. He currently serves as a team physician for the Greensboro Grasshoppers (Class high-A minor league baseball) and the Greensboro Gargoyles (ECHL minor league hockey).
He has previously served as a team physician for the NY Islanders Hockey Club of the NHL and Harrisburg Senators (Class AA minor league baseball). He also served as a consultant for the USTA at the US Open Tennis Championship from 2016-2023.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, son, and dog. He is a fan of soccer and Penn State Football. His hobbies include fly fishing, fly tying, golfing and cooking.
