Biography
Broadus "Zane" Atkins, MD, is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon with extensive experience in all forms of mechanical assist devices and thoracic transplantation. His professional interests include surgery for acute and chronic heart failure as well as surgery for valvular heart disease, arrhythmia and ischemic heart disease.
After completing fellowship training for cardiothoracic surgery in 2007, he entered active duty with the US Air Force where he served 14 years and rose to the rank of the Colonel. He has held several prestigious positions within Federal and academic medicine including chief of cardiac surgery in Seattle.
A North Carolina native from Mt. Airy, he has traveled the world and the country to train and treat patients with the most advanced care.
