Biography

Board certified in pediatrics, David Williams, MD, has been an attending pediatric critical care physician with the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital since 2003. Also, he serves as assistant consulting professor for Duke University and routinely lectures pediatric and family medicine residents and registered nurses.

His professional interests include diabetic ketoacidosis, a serious complication of diabetes, and acute respiratory failure, including mechanical ventilation.

From age nine through college, Dr. Williams was a gymnast. In his senior year of college, he was nominated for the Nissen Emery Award, which is given to the best male collegiate gymnast in the U.S. for reflecting admirable scholarship, moral characteristics and sporting success. In 2008, he was inducted into the William and Mary Athletics Hall of Fame.

Dr. Williams and his wife, a retired pediatric hematology, oncology and bone marrow transplant nurse, have two sons and a daughter.

In the community, he has volunteered his time to support many school events for his children. In addition, he enjoys bowling, basketball and golf.
