CareLinkCareLink and the CareLink Resource Line are provided by Cone Health as a one-call service to physicians for facilitation of physician consultations and the immediate and efficient transport of patients into, within, and out of the Cone Health network.

CareLink is the mobile critical care transport service operated by Cone Health.  Providing state-of-the-art medical technology to care for the most critical patient, from neonate to adult, the transport team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

CareLink began in 1994 with one ambulance as health system administration and local physicians believed there was a need to provide a more efficient means of transporting sick and critically ill patients from smaller hospitals in the area for procedures and higher levels of care. Since the first month when CareLink transported 30 patients, there has been a rapid growth in the health system and subsequently in the CareLink call volume. CareLink now averages almost 600 calls monthly.

CareLink operates four ambulances during weekdays, two of which operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  One ambulance is maintained during the weekdays at the Annie Penn Hospital campus in Reidsville while the remaining ambulances are stationed near The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

CareLink serves a radius of 150 miles from each of its bases and will transport patients farther distances based of customer requests and patient stability.  CareLink has traveled as far as Georgia, Tennessee, and the District of Columbia. 

Transport requests are triaged based on patient acuity by our Communications Specialists and nurses. The CareLink transport team may be requested by calling the CareLink Resource Line at 1-800-898-7828 or locally at (336) 271-4956.

CareLink transport staff consists of RNs with a minimum of three years of critical care or emergency nursing experience and EMTs with a minimum of two years of emergency vehicle driving experience. 

The CareLink Resource Line is staffed 24 hours a day by Communications Specialists who facilitate physician to physician consultations and referrals as well as arrange for transports by the CareLink transport team. The CareLink Resource Line is also the single point of contact for Code STEMI (S-T elevation myocardial infarction) activations by hospitals and local EMS agencies. The Resource Line is also the single point of contact for ED and EMS field activations for Code Stroke.
