Cone Health Cancer Center Recognizes Cancer Survivors

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and the National Cancer Institute, 11.7 million Americans are cancer survivors. That number has grown nearly 20 percent in just the last six years.

Cone Health Cancer Center celebrates survivorship during the 12th Annual Cancer Survivors Day, Thursday, May 31, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cone Health Cancer Center on the Wesley Long Hospital campus.

Cancer Center-Wesley LongAs participants have the opportunity to network with other survivors and reunite with healthcare providers, they will also be able to take advantage of opportunities to learn more about the outreach, wellness and fitness programs provided by the Cone Health Cancer Center as well as a variety of community organizations.

“As one of the area’s leading centers in fighting cancer, we know how important it is for survivors once again to find direction and purpose in their lives,” says Skip Hislop, Vice President, Oncology Services, Cone Health. “This is a great way for survivors to connect with other survivors and realize that life doesn’t stop with a cancer diagnosis.”

“One cannot be diagnosed and treated for cancer without being changed,” says Tami Knutson, Specialty Clinic Manager, Cone Health Cancer Center. “Cancer Survivor Day celebrates life and helps people find that new normal after or during their cancer experience.” Cancer Survivors Day is free.
