Cone Health Opens New Emergency Department

A new, spacious, modern emergency department brings more privacy, comfort and convenience opened at Wesley Long Hospital on Friday, Aug. 31. The new facility, on the same side as the hospital’s main entrance and main parking areas, replaces a smaller emergency department that was on the other side of the hospital.

Wesley Long Emergency Department“Improving our emergency department was a priority,” says Paul Jeffrey, President, Wesley Long Hospital. “Caring for our community is essential and being able to provide more space and to provide private treatment areas for patients is very important.”

Over the past decade, Cone Health has invested $500 million in construction and technology to improve patient care. This $18 million project is part of that commitment to becoming a national leader in quality, service and cost in delivery of healthcare. The project will bring:

25 private rooms.9 triage/ Minor Care rooms.8 transition rooms (for those waiting for hospital admission).Easier access to the emergency room with the new location adjacent to the main hospital entrance, Cone Health Cancer Center and parking lots.Improved technology with a new, dedicated CT scanner and diagnostic X-ray facility.

“While our new emergency department has great features and a terrific team of emergency medicine professionals, I would like to remind the public to take children needing healthcare to the specialists of the Pediatric Emergency Department at Moses Cone Hospital,” says Gayle Mueller, Interim Director, Wesley Long Hospital Emergency Department.

The former Wesley Long Hospital Emergency Department will be renovated for use as a larger outpatient surgery area. The completion date is expected to be early 2013.
