John Currin Announces Retirement
Preston Hammock assumes full executive responsibility for Alamance Regional Medical Center.

After 27 years at Alamance Regional Medical Center, John Currin has begun his planned transition toward retirement. Currin has relinquished his role as CEO and will work as a consultant with Cone Health through the end of the year. Effective today, Preston Hammock assumes full executive responsibility for Alamance Regional and will continue to serve as president and chief operating officer.

“I have known John for years. He is an incredible leader and a great colleague and friend, says Cone Health CEO Tim Rice. “Under John’s leadership, Alamance Regional has become an outstanding provider of healthcare in the community and in the region. I am grateful to John for all that he has done.”

Currin will continue his work on Alamance Regional’s Cultivating Hope Capital Campaign to raise money for the cancer center and with John CurrinImpact Alamance, the new community health fund created as a result of the merger with Cone Health.

“I can’t imagine a better place to spend the last 27 years than at Alamance Regional Medical Center. It’s been an honor working with so many caring, talented people,” says Currin. “But I am really excited about what the new cancer center and Impact Alamance will bring. They will cure, improve and change the healthcare of our community in ways we can barely imagine.”

Currin has served as chief executive officer since 2005. The Alamance County native was involved in two important hospital mergers. He was part of the executive team that led the merger of Alamance County and Memorial hospitals in 1986 and was a key driver in the merger with Cone Health.

Currin has received numerous awards for his commitment to Alamance Regional, most recently the North Carolina Hospital Association’s Distinguished Service Award. It is the organization’s highest honor for a hospital executive who has made unique contributions to the healthcare field.

“I also want to offer my personal congratulations to Preston,” adds Rice.“He is a dynamic leader who has earned his new role as president of Alamance Regional. Preston’s leadership will be valuable not only to Alamance Regional but also to the broader Cone Health network.”
