Bruce Rejoins Cone Health Board of Trustees


Carole Bruce has returned to the Cone Health Board of Trustees to complete the term of Michelle Gethers-Clark who resigned to focus more on the United Way of Greater Greensboro, where she serves as President and Chief Executive Officer..

Bruce served on the Cone Health Board of Trustees from 1988-2002. She was Chairwoman of the Board of Cone Health from 1999-2001. Bruce was active on numerous committees and was instrumental in the merger of Wesley Long Hospital into what is now Cone Health.Carole Bruce

“Carole has played a major role laying the groundwork for many of the successes Cone Health has had in the areas of providing high-quality, service-oriented and low-cost care,” says Cone Health Chief Executive Officer Tim Rice. “Carole is deeply passionate about our community and healthcare, and will be a great asset as we work toward transforming our organization for the future.”

Bruce is an attorney and partner with Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP, and is very active in the community. She has received numerous awards, including the Greensboro Partnership’s Thomas Z. Osborne Distinguished Citizen Award; the Brotherhood Sisterhood Citation from the National Conference for Community and Justice; Guilford College’s Distinguished Service Award; and The Triad Business Journal's Top Women in Business Award. Bruce has held leadership roles with the Rotary Club of Greensboro, the International Civil Rights Museum and Center, Guilford College, The Joseph M. Bryan Foundation, The Stanley and Dorothy Frank Family Foundation, and the Greensboro Partnership.

Gethers-Clark has been on the Cone Health Board of Trustees since 2010, serving on the strategic planning committee and leading the human resources committee. “I applaud her efforts to focus on the United Way,” Rice says. “Michelle brings incredible passion to her role as president and CEO of this worthy organization, and her efforts will make Greensboro a better place to live and work.”
