Cone Health Increases Care for the Uninsured

Cone Health is expanding primary care services for adults who may or may not have health insurance. The new Cone Health Community Health & Wellness Center has opened at 201 E. Wendover Ave. The Center operates from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointments can be made by calling 832-4444.

Community Health and Wellness CenterThe Community Health and Wellness Center sees patients of the adult care center of the Cone Urgent Care Center at The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. The staff of the adult care center has moved to the new facility. Additional health professionals will join them. Plans include opening an on-site pharmacy in the fall.

The Community Health & Wellness Center will use the medical home model to provide care. The model uses physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, social workers, health coaches and other healthcare specialists to provide patient care. “We feel that this is an ideal way to provide the highest quality of care for our patients,” says Cone Health Medical Group Vice President Steve Anderson. “A team approach can really help deal with chronic health needs like diabetes or simpler needs like reminding you to get a flu shot. It’s an innovative way to not only meet daily healthcare needs, but to improve long-term health.”

“Cone Health cannot solve the issue of the uninsured alone,” explains Cone Health Executive Vice President for Health Services Tim Clontz. “The Community Health & Wellness Center is an important step. We hope this medical home model will help people avoid trips to the emergency department, keep these folks out of the hospital and partner with them to better manage their health and well-being.”

Cone Health is committed to providing care for those who need it regardless of their ability to pay. In fiscal 2013, Cone Health provided nearly $245 million in uncompensated care to the community.
