Foster to Lead The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital


Mickey Foster has been named executive vice president of Cone Health and president of The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. Foster has served as president of Annie Penn Hospital since May 2010.

Foster succeeds Judy Schanel as leader of the 536-bed flagship hospital of MIckey Foster, Pres. Moses Cone Hospital Cone Health. Schanel was recently named executive vice president of acute care services for Cone Health. “Mickey is nationally known for his work in engaging employees and elevating patient satisfaction,” says Schanel. “The patient stands at the center of all we do and Mickey will only sharpen the focus on our patients and on those who care for them.”

During his tenure, Annie Penn Hospital received numerous accolades for success in patient, employee and physician satisfaction. Among the awards is the national 2013 Guardian of Excellence Award from Press Ganey for employee engagement. He and Debbie Green, DNP, RN, vice president of nursing/patient services, Annie Penn Hospital and interim president, Behavioral Health Hospital, have given national presentations on patient and employee satisfaction. The latest was last month at the Cleveland Clinic. Green will lead Annie Penn Hospital as interim president.

I am very confident the team will continue to make Annie Penn Hospital the best place for patients, employees and physicians,” says Foster. “At the same time, I am very excited about joining the Moses Cone Hospital team. There is a real passion and commitment to excellence there that I can’t wait to become a part of.”

Before joining Cone Health, Foster served as the vice president/chief operating officer of Maria Parham Medical Center, a 102-bed hospital in Henderson. Prior to that, he was an administrative director at Duke Raleigh Hospital. Foster also worked at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro and Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Foster received his bachelor's degree from East Carolina University and his master's degree in health services administration from Central Michigan University. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Foster is serving or has served on a number of executive boards including Hospice of Rockingham County, Reidsville Chamber of Commerce, Reidsville YMCA, Rockingham Health Alliance and Rockingham Wells Fargo.
