Cone Health Names New Chief Medical Officer
Bruce Swords, MD, PhD, has been promoted to chief medical officer. In his new role, Swords will collaborate with nearly 2,000 physicians, leaders and care providers across Cone Health to further improve quality, safety and knowledge-driven, patient-centered care.
Swords joined Cone Health as chief of the primary care division of LeBauer HealthCare in 1996. He became vice president and chief medical information officer in 2009 and was instrumental in Cone Health’s successful move to Cone HealthLink (its electronic medical records system.)
Swords is completing a Chief Medical Officer Fellowship with Health Management Academy (2014-2016) and he was an inaugural graduate of the Cone Health Physician Leadership Academy, a partnership with the Center for Creative Leadership to develop physician leaders.
Swords earned his medical degree and PhD at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He performed his residency at the Mayo Graduate School.
