Cone Health Nurse Named Practice Nurse of the Year
Denise Rhew, RN, MSN, has been named the Practice Nurse of the Year by the North Carolina Nurses Association (NCNA). The annual award is given to the practice nurse who excels in providing innovative nursing care, has a track record for demonstrating knowledge in his or her practice area, and is a positive role model for patients and peers.
Rhew is a clinical nurse specialist who has responsibilities in Cone Health’s five emergency departments. Rhew joined Cone Health in 2008 and has 31 years of nursing experience.
Rhew was one of more than 20 people being recognized for helping to lead nursing forward in North Carolina. NCNA is honoring the nurses and nursing advocates at an awards luncheon during its 108th Annual Convention, which was held last week in Concord.
“We are so proud to recognize each of these award winners,” said NCNA President Megan Williams, MSN, RN, FNP. “Their leadership advances the nursing profession, and the positive effects on North Carolina and beyond cannot be overstated.”
Rhew is completing a doctorate in nursing research and philosophy at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. She is a member of the Great 100 Alumni Board, the North Carolina Nurses Association, Emergency Nursing Association and Sigma Theta Tau, the honorary nursing association.
