Cone Health Renews Laboratory Accreditation
The College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to the medical laboratories of Annie Penn Hospital, Moses Cone Hospital, Wesley Long Hospital, Women’s Hospital and Cone Health MedCenter High Point. This comes after a recent on-site inspection as part of the CAP Accreditation Program.
“From blood work to urine tests, labs play a huge role in the care of our patients,” says Cone Health Pathology Director Theresa O’Laughlin. “CAP accreditation means we meet or exceed the industry standards. It is another way of ensuring better, safer care for our patients.”
The voluntary, two-year accreditation is based on the results of a rigorous on-site inspection that is designed to help laboratories achieve the highest standards of excellence. The accreditation inspection covers quality control, proficiency testing, qualifications of staff, maintenance of instruments and overall management of the laboratory.
The U.S. Government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, which began in the early 1960s, as being an equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program.
