The Colors of Fall Will Be at the Women’s Only

We usually think of reds, yellows, purples and oranges as the colors of fall. But for 2016, the hues of autumn are “Azalea,” “Heliconia,” “Light Pink” and “Sky.” Those are the T-shirt colors for this year’s Women’s Only 5K Walk & Run.

The Oct. 1 event benefits the Mammography Scholarship Fund at Cone Health.

The fund helps provide approximately 600 women per year with lifesaving screening mammograms that they would otherwise be unable to afford.

“One out of every eight women will get breast cancer. Mammograms remain the very best way to detect breast cancer early, and early detection is the key to survival,” says Cindy Farrand, president, Women’s Hospital. “It is wonderful that so many generous members of our community make sure that all women in our community have an opportunity to get this important health screening.”

Breast cancer is the most frequently treated cancer at Cone Health Cancer Center.

The commemorative T-shirts are given to the first 3,000 women who register. Race packets are mailed to those who register online by Sept. 7. Early bird registration is $30. It goes to $40 on Sept. 8. Girls’ Only Mini-Walk & Run registration is $10. Men’s Only Support Team registration is $30. Register at or through the Race IT app.

The festivities begin at 8 a.m. with the Girls’ Only Mini-Walk and Run for participants 6 years old and younger. There will be dozens of exhibitors, Jazzercise warm-ups and other activities.
