year-over-year superior clinical performance. A representative of Healthgrades will present the award on Thursday, Feb. 23, at Alamance Regional.

“This is a terrific achievement, not only for Alamance Regional, but more importantly to each and every patient we serve,” says Preston Hammock, president, Alamance Regional Medical Center. “When you look at the data this award is based on, you realize that some of the best health care in the country is found right here in Alamance County.”

From 2013 through 2015, patients treated in hospitals achieving Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award have, on average, a 27.1 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive this award, as measured across 19 rated conditions and procedures where mortality is the outcome. During this same period, if all other hospitals, as a group, performed at the level of America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ recipients across these 19 procedures and conditions, on average 179,438 lives could potentially have been saved. For example, patients treated at a hospital that has achieved the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ had, on average, a 33.2 percent lower risk of dying during their hospital stay for heart failure than if treated at a hospital that did not receive the award.*

“Our analysis shows that there is tremendous variation in care, so it’s important for consumers to carefully research and choose a hospital,” said Brad Bowman, chief medical officer, Healthgrades. “We commend the recipients of Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award for delivering exceptional clinical outcomes that help them stand out from their peers.”

Alamance Regional has been recognized by Healthgrades for clinical excellence in a number of specific categories as well. These include pulmonary care, critical care and gastrointestinal care. A complete list can be found at

The 100 recipients of the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ stand out among the rest for overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care. During the 2017 study period (2013-2015), these hospitals showed superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across at least 21 of 32 most common inpatient conditions and procedures — as measured by objective performance data (risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications).
