Moses Cone Hospital Named to List of Top 50 for Cardiovascular Care
The list was put together after number crunching by the company behind IBM’s Watson computer.
The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital has been named a Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospital by IBM Watson Health™. That means the Cone Health Heart and Vascular Center ranks among the elite of hospitals on several key measures of heart care.
The care available at more than 1,000 hospitals was reviewed in coming up with the list.
The IBM Watson Health measurement looked at a number of factors, including how well heart patients did after treatment. This was measured both in the hospital and after the patient went home. Special attention was paid to heart attacks and heart bypass treatment. The costs of treating heart attack and heart failure were also important factors.
“Heart disease is life changing. Everyone wants the very best care, and it is available right in our neighborhood. The Watson Health recognition is another measure demonstrating that you can’t get better heart care than at Cone Health Heart and Vascular Center,” says Mickey Foster, president, Moses Cone Hospital, and senior vice president, Cone Health.
According to IBM Watson, if all cardiovascular providers in the U.S. performed at the level of Cone Health and the others on this top 50 list:
- Nearly 8,900 additional lives could be saved.
- Nearly 3,700 more bypass and angioplasty patients could be complication-free.
- More than $1.4 billion could be saved.
