Strollin’ Colon, Health Checks and More at Tanger Outlet Center

Cone Health will hold a health fair for shoppers at the Mebane outlet.

Shoppers can grab great bargains and learn more about wellness during a health fair at the Tanger Outlets in Mebane.

The event starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the shopping center. It is free and coordinated by Cone Health MedCenter Mebane.

The health fair features the Strollin’ Colon, a 12-by-10-foot model of an intestine. The colossal colon helps people learn about ulcerative colitis, polyps and the various stages of colon cancer. Colorectal cancer is the fourth most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States.

“You can see why colonoscopies are so important. We believe they help prevent colon cancer by revealing polyps,” says Darren Wohl, MD, Burlington Surgical Associates. “Polyps are small growths that can turn into cancer years later. Removing them prevents that.”

Health care professionals will be on hand to offer tips on avoiding colon cancer. They will be joined by experts from Cone Health MedCenter Mebane. Urgent care providers will take and interpret blood pressures. People can also direct questions to ear, nose and throat specialists and learn more about the specialists at MedCenter Mebane.
